In todays world we see things are changing so fast new technology is evolving, new products are launching every minutes, so many new startups are coming, rockets are coming back, robots evolution looks can be seen in real life other than sci-fi movies, so much new stuff. You look everywhere there is something to learn and update the knowledge. But even after seeing so much innovation there are few things which actually never changed and they are always being same and will always be same, SAME AS EVER.
This is the book tells you about that there are some core behaviour which have newer changed, they have been same from centuries and they will be same in upcoming centuries. In his book Housel have given so many great example about each principals that you can practically see them in day to day time. All the chapters in the book are independent of each other and you can pick up any one which you feels like reading.
Just to give you a small jest of the book, for example he has mentioned about how story telling plays an critical role in convey your message. In this book he has mentioned that "How Morgan Freeman can even make you cry while reading a grocery list" and how Elon Musk is able to convince investor and explain very complex engineering idea in so simpler manner that investors are ready to bet there money on his idea. The best story he has mentioned was about Martin King Luther Jr I have a dream speech how his team worked day and night to write so called perfect speech, using best words and well formed sentences, but later in the stage when Martin King Luther Jr was giving the speech one of his team member shouted tell people about your dream and king gave the speech "I have dream" and rest is history.
Another chapter "Calm plants the seeds of crazy" is mentioning about how comfort sew the seed of destruction. One of the example which I liked is about COVID-19 when it came it was sock for everyone and housel says its not the pandemic which was the issue but it was our human mindset that was the issue. The reason was that we have not seen the pandemic for more than century and hence we where in the state of mind that there wont be any pandemic and then boom COVID-19 came with bang on the face, but if that has been the case a century year ago it would have been considered as any other pandemic and will be treated in the same way as it has been treated in the past. But we as human always try to give ourself a false impression about how strong we are and adaptable we forgot that we are strong but yet we are so fragile at the same time. But this was the case in the past, this is the case in present and this will be the case in future. Same as ever.
This is really amazing book, I will park to same level as that of Psychology Of Money. Well written and narrated and the book is full of example which is plus point. But if you are not aware of some of the incident which has happend in USA or in somewhere in east Asia it will be hard to understand them, so for example I am not sure how many youngster are aware about Lehman Brothers bank and its bankruptcy, it was one of the most successful bank running for more than 150 year but it took only 48 hours to go from fully profitable bank to file for bankruptcy. Also there are some incident which might be well known for Americans which could be challenging for non-American citizen to understand and correlate. But housel have taken the time to explain those incident in brief, but some of the event for me was hard to connect.
Overall this book is fantastic and i would rate it 4.25 ⭐ out of 5. I would recommend this book as it really convey the message that even when we sees lots of progress and innovation around the corners at core they are same. Things don't change as fast as it seems and at core they where same, are same and will be same : SAME as EVER
